What makes us different?

Baobab Foundation

We’re you. You’re us.

Our network of Black and Ethnic Minority Community Organisations across the country will lead the new Foundation we will create with them. Their knowledge of what works and what is needed is core to all we represent.

We don’t just do grants, we do real empowerment. Putting power where it matters

Our funding and focus will be shaped by the communities who need our help. Decisions on allocating funding will be made by community organisations with input from donors.

We’re ambitious and here for the long haul.

The problems of racism, poverty and disadvantage are centuries old which is why we want to build a long term funding solution and changing the world needs significant resources — we aim to raise over £1bn in endowed funds so that we can distribute £50m in grants every year.

We’re driven by strong ethics and serious about what we’re doing

The impact of COVID, the murder of George Floyd, poverty and centuries of structural racism and inequalities is what drives us.

A broad base built on unity and shared principles

We are a unique alliance of local and national community organisations, private sector organisations, private philanthropists and other trusts & foundations.

Learning, teaching, sharing.

As well as providing funding, Baobab will share our learning, encouraging better practice among other funders and policy makers — as a critical friend to fix what’s broken/unequal across the funding ecosystem.
